Gift Boxes or look for them to hit stores soon. Where do we begin? Saturday October 13, look for us at the 5th Annual LA Decompression Street Fair in down town LA. We will be at the 6th street bridge with the Venice Vibe Tribe. We camped with the Vibe Tribe at Burningman this year @ 2:30 and 'Cactus', along with our new friends the Cosmic Elves. Actually, the street was really called Coral Reef, but we lit up a 14' cactus with completely recycled light-up material as our art project this year, along with the camp art car, so we took the opportunity to rename the street.
We've spent the past year continuing with our remodel of the house/studio, still not complete, but getting closer. We were very excited to be able to host the first of many Medialon Training Courses. It was a Superbowl Year! We were invited by Garland Riddle to work with the wardrobe department for Superbowl XLI. This year Prince performed with the FAMU marching band. We were glowing from ear to ear as the 250 member band turned on their lights. Back to basics... some Watchout™ programming skills were required for a project in the magnificent Grand Tetons and another which took us across the sea to jolly 'ol Coventry England. We joined our friends from Green Hippo at the Manchester Festival, and took a mad dash through the countryside to see Stonehenge and a couple of other sites during the rainiest summer on record. Loved every bit of it, including the music box museum in the Cotswolds.Another highlight was a side trip (that would be a way out of the way, interesting journey that nearly left us stranded in the middle of nowhere except for the hospitality of the local bus authority) to see Willie Williams' new Lumia exhibit at a small art gallery upstairs in a library. Very interesting stuff. Go see it if you have a chance. One of our pictures of a church in Coventry has led to our nomination to the International Society of Photographers Hall of Fame. We supported our dear friend Hillel, "Mr. Balloonman", at the Magic Castle, with projection equipment for one of the pieces we designed and produced. We had fun creating glowing firefly buts for a children's opera in LA, and helping our good friend, costume designer Stia (Christina Giannini), light up a parade of children for the 4th of July in Chautauqua, NY. We conitnued working on one of our favorite projects, Jazz Aviary with close friend Susan Krebs. Suze has just released the Jazz Aviary album - a must listen to! Please get your own as soon as possible and enjoy this exquisite project. Look for a new production of the show this Spring. We failed to mentioned the one project that we were most excited about, "Ice, Direct from Russia". Did we mention fail? None-the-less we wish the production well so that they can soon fulfill their contractual obligations to us. The kids in the show are all fabulous and engaging to watch. We have embarked on a course on Permaculture Design with new friends Larry and Kathryn Santoyo, towards our goal of becoming certified in this field and applying these principles to our projects. There is a great deal of synergy here, as the basis of permaculture is to interact with the world as group of interelated systems, much the way we approach show control. Be sure to ask us about Water Woman! We're certain there's more to speak of, so come back and catch up soon; hopefully after we've updated the info. Please enquire about a copy of our Demo Reel for yourself or your clients.
21 Oct 2006: Personal Creations BIG MOVE Many of you have been asking, What have you been up to? Where have you been? What exciting projects have you been working on? Well, we have been quite busy over the past year. Soon after our return from New York, we bought a home. We had just been informed that our apartment complex in Marina Del Rey, was on the chopping block in the next year and we would need to be relocated in less than that. We thought lets start looking, Spain seemed rather inviting to both of us, but a house not far from the Marina was on the market and we got it. Our excitement for the house soon turned to dismay as we uncovered problem after problem. We knew the only way to afford the house was to be able to work from it and give up the studio, sigh... We carefully laid out our plan to divide the home from the studio. A year later, we finally had to give it up and move into the unfinished space. Now, with lots of unpacking to do." Marc has gone off to LDI, Las Vegas. I chose to stay behind and try to attend to the changes, including updating the website. AGAIN, with a new sense of invigoration we are eager to get back and be creative. We look forward to showing you our new Studio and inviting you into our home; 12336 Marshall Street Studio Suite 1-A Culver City, CA 90230 310-391-8300 25 June 2005: Personal Creations attends Broadway Master Class We rushed to the airport on Thursday and thought there wasn't a moment to spare. But, luck was on our side and we got through security and to the gate with little to no hassle. There we wait. We finally board the plane and we're off to New York. We taxi out to the run way... Safety check, cross check, "This is your pilot, there seems to be a problem with the rutter, we need to go back to the gate." So, back at the gate, we off load and change to anothe gate. They load our luggage and we think we'll be ready to go shortly. However, the plane fails its safety check and were made to wait for another plane. 3 hours later we board our plane and we're off on a red-eye flight to NYC and a busy week of education. We caught several shows while in town, Lazer Vaudeville, Spamalot, Avenue Q, Stomp, Slava's Snow Show, and Movin' Out. Our favorite was Slava's Snow Show and a must see! All week long, thanks to Lighting Dimensions Magazine, we had the opportunity to attend this year's Broadway Master Classes for Lighting and Projection. Now, with a new sense of invigoration we are eager to get back and be creative. - 24 May 2005 Company News Casablanca The Dance debuts in Beijing, China Almost everyone knows the story of political and romantic espionage set against the backdrop of World War II. It is the early 1940s and the world is engulfed in war. In a corner of North Africa two old lovers meet. But what once was, can never be.... Time has gone by. Now, 63 years later on a stage in Beijing. China Focus UPDATED: 09:49, April 10, 2005 Reports:"The stage musical 'Casablanca,' adapted from the 1943 Oscar-winning film, has reached its expected goal for Chinese audience's enthusiasm coming with high box return, observers said after its world premiere in Beijing's Great Hall of the People Friday night" (8 April 2005). "The applause was shared between US media giant Time Warner Inc. and the China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG)," along with Los Angels Dance Theater, Condon Entertainment Ltd., and Personal Creations, Inc. The film "Casablanca," shot in 1942 by Warner Brothers, is popular in China for its tragic love story and heroic and patriotic themes. Many Chinese people can sing the classic song " As Time Goes By" the musical theme which runs through the entire film, which is also the love theme of the live-stage version as well. The composer Clyde Allen has done a remarkable job in keeping all the songs and musical material from the original film, including "As Time Goes By," George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and Cole Porter's "Begin the Beguine." In addition, Allen has composed some beautiful original additional music. (China Daily March 28, 2005) "Two years ago, the Los Angeles-based choreographer John Clifford, (founder of the Los Angeles Ballet and Los Angeles Dance Theater) pitched his idea of turning the classic movie (based on his own libretto of the classic film) into a live-stage show to Warner Bros Theater Ventures executive Vice-President Gregg Maday. Initially he said no, but the seed of the idea stuck. Maday asked Clifford to stage a half-hour workshop at the UCLA theatre in August of 2003, and got the go ahead to mount a production. Maday came up with the idea of launching the show in China, and with the help of the veteran Australian producer Patrick Condon who is familiar with Chinese show business, found a local partner in the China Arts & Entertainment Group (CAEG). "Warner Bros are showing their faith in China by launching their most precious asset Casablanca for the first time on stage," said Condon who has worked in China's performing arts circle for 18 years." "Several years ago, Warner had planned to turn the film into a musical, but couldn't decide where to give its world premier," said Ellen R. Eliasoph, head of Beijing office of Warner's film division. "Then we focused on China." One of the first questions posed by executives at Warner Bros was how Clifford could tell the story. In the 30-minute workshop, the veteran choreographer and director showed them how it was clearly possible using gesture and dance. Later, musical numbers were added to complete the theatrical experience. The dramatized approach, Clifford explained, takes a unique form and includes pantomime, song, dance, acting and multi-media effects. "Casablanca" is a completely unique theatrical experience. It is not a Broadway Musical, opera, classical ballet, or straight play. It is all of them. "There are state-of-the-art visual and sound effects, and no expense has been spared by Warner Bros in the area of production values," he said. Personal Creations was an integral part to the success of this project as Marc Rosenthal Produced and designed the Lighting, Sound and Projection for the show. Personal Creations General Managed the production. First, we rounded up the usual suspects, long time associates, collegues, friends and friends of friends to crew the production; Lighting, Projection & Sound Designer: Marc Rosenthal Assistant General Manager: Marcy Rosenthal Technical Director: Mark Cummings Master Carpenter: Rob Durham Head Audio: Kevin Carey and Assistant Audio Joe Kassel Production Stage Manager/ Asst. T.D.: Robert "Hondo" Bingham and Stage Manager: Ben "Bender" Tuskes Master Electrician: Maura "Dragon Lady" McGuinness and Associate Master Electrician: Lily Bradford Projectionist: Mark "Quin" Cabalquinto Stage Technician: Ken "FOO" Meryman World Wide Life Support Production Assistant: Emily Bowen We jointly decided to bring in Company Manager: Alan Hills Without whom this production would not have been possible. Their commitment and dedication to the success of the show was commendable. We found the experience quite grueling, as this was the first Western production ever to premiere in China. We faced new challenges daily. However, we overcame and persevered the long long hours, language barriers, customs, money issues, deadlines, drama, security and metal detectors, power and the variety of power adapters, weight restrictions, poor craftsmanship, transportation, traffic, huge cultural barriers, minute by minute changes in lineset schedules, and the most intense in-depth fire safety testing imaginable and the shows over get everything out now. In the end, we had 3 sold out performances with standing ovations! "But it was never going to be easy because 'Casablanca' must not be trivialized. So it is a great personal honour to me that the executives at Warner Bros Studios understood my concept of how I could respect the film and still bring it to the live stage for a whole new generation." stated Clifford "There are several musical numbers that take place in Rick's cafe, so I think it's natural to turn it into a multi-disciplined show," said Clifford, who had been with Balanchine at the New York City Ballet and established the Los Alleges Ballet in 1974. "The idea of other actors trying to say the great dialogue and be compared to the legends, Bogart and Bergman is ridiculous. But the idea of dancers and singers portraying these characters was interesting to them," he explained. "'The world premiere of 'Casablanca' in Beijing will promote the city's image,'" and Personal Creations is proud to say that we helped make that possible. =============================================================== ETS-LDI 2004 Award Winners Announced
If you haven't already heard, we are married! Sunday, April 4, 2004 at 5:00pm Marc Ian Rosenthal and Marcy Ann Igersheim were married at the Inn of The Seventh Ray, Topanga, California. The ceremony was beautiful and filled with emotion. Sadly to say, Mr. William Lester Bennett, a.k.a. "Boston Billy" was unable to be present to give the Bride away. He died of a broken heart Saturday morning, at his condo in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ceremony was followed by a dinner and Faerie Tale Ball reception, hosted at the GAM Rehearsal Studio on West Pico. For those of you interested in the back story; Marc and Marcy met nearly 5 years ago when a mutual friend had invited her to his annual themed birthday bash.
Nice as he was, there wasn't anything that would get her to leave her fiance for. A year and a half later, another mutual friend had suggested that Marcy go invterview for a position at Personal Creations. The interview went well, but Personal Creations was not able to pay her enough. So, another 6 months go by. Marc had been invited to Paul Carrie's Birthday Celebration, "Great Bulls" party. When Marc arrived at 4:30 in the morning, the door keepers just wanted to close up and go party. Marcy just happened to be there and came to his rescue. Though his name was familiar, Marc Rosenthal hadn't looked like the man she had met twice before, he shaved. Later that night, Marc had said to her, "If you ever want to change your situation, give me a call." Two months later they moved into a very comfortable apartment near the beach and less than 2 miles from the office of Personal Creations. On August 22, 2003, while preparing for their annual treck to Burningman, Marc came in with a box of Cracker Jacks. Inside was a ring. The next day, Marc returned to the office after running some errands and told her it was not going to work and told Marcy to take off the ring. He then got down on his knee and placed a beautiful Diamond ring that he designed and had made onto her finger. August will mark two years of them working together at Personal Creations. Marcy's previous fiance has also joined the company and is presently out on tour with Josh Groban.
